materials: linoleum block, pencil, linocut ink, paper

process: This artwork started as a linocut carving, using tracing paper to sketch a detailed battle scene in the ocean. After months of tracing the black and white scene, the painting was remade. Then came carving, which went too in depth. The linocut was printed in white ink on black paper, then drawn over once more, totally, on procreate.

  • Samurai called themselves bushi, meaning warrior. Samurai means to serve. Recognizing the simpler times of person to person confrontations and warfare, opposed to the cowardly, and unbelievably destructive 2000 pound bombs of today. Appreciating honorable warriors, particularly those who respected a conduct of war, used katanas (swords), bows, arrows, horses.
