two wands
Fireball!
year of creation: 2021
materials: ink, water, paper, highlighter ink, colored pencils, oil paint
process: The background was made through ink marbling, in a Japanese technique called Suminagashi. Paper is dipped onto water that has swirling ink on the surface. Masking tape was used to preserve the background pattern while a broken highlighter’s ink formed the hot pink. A volcano and slingshot was initially sketched in colored pencils, to be lathered in oil paint, making the volcano voluptuous and the fireball menacing.
