Ausar
year of creation: 2024-2025
materials: marker, colored pencil, linoleum, linocut ink, paper, scissors, glue
process: Four wavy green strips set the scene for this artwork. This card was made alongside Queen Wildflowers, so the card energies harmonize. Initially, the Queen of Wildflowers was going to be a linocut print, though it wasn’t notable enough of a work. The purple areas of color came from the prints of that linocut, that were chopped up, organized, and glued onto paper with colors and textures that matched to form a seamless background. The dinosaurs are there to represent the Earth, and these drawings came out of a mini sketchbook from university in 2024.

Written in the mythology of Kemet, Ausar is the first king of Kemet. Danita Smith speaks: “So when you think about restoring divinity into your life, when you think of Ausar being the manifestation of divinity in your life, you living out god’s will in your life, god really living through you. We talked about the Memphite theology and the Shabaka’s stone, and Ptah living in everybody, that god is living through everybody. And Ausar is that representation of that, you being able to be here on Earth, and to be divine, and to live out your divinity. That’s what Ausar is. And how you get there? The way you make that happen is with Auset (Ausar’s counterpart). This is how you do it. And for me, Auset represents discipline. She represents dedication. She represents the type of devotion and dedication you need in order to be able to manifest god’s divinity” (3:45-4:22).
